Maureen Rose Smith Dolan Dies

HAVRE Maureen Dolan,78, died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 25, at a Billings hospital.

Her funeral is 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Maureen Dolan, a very kind and loving person, passed away unexpectedly into the arms of the Lord on Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012.

She was born Dec. 13, 1934, to Marvin and Gladys (Patrick) Smith. Maureen was passionate about her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking and working outdoors in her many gardens around Montana. Maureen was a master gardener and enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers. She loved playing cards, especially bridge and pinochle. She was a very positive person and always had wonderful advice. She was a hardworking, compassionate person who loved volunteering for her church and making many quilts and school bags. Maureen enjoyed traveling and was able to go to Disneyland with her granddaughter in 2011.

She married the love of her life, Robert C. Dolan, in 1956. They were married for 56 years. Maureen was a teacher throughout her life, where she taught G.E.D. classes at Robin's school. Maureen played women's softball well into her 60s and could play as well as the young ladies on the team. Maureen occasionally also taught students how to drive. After retirement, Maureen and Robert spent their summers at Swan Lake and their winters in Mesa, Ariz. They had many friends in both places.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Marvin Smith; her husband, Robert Dolan in September 2012; her brother, Richard Smith; and her sister, Karen Taylor.

Maureen was a very loving mother to her two sons and her foster daughter. She is survived by her oldest son, Mike (Cody) Dolan of Billings; her youngest son, Wade Dolan, of Arizona; her foster daughter, Candace (Gerald) Hoots of Portland, Ore.; and her granddaughter, Kameron Dolan of Billings.

Memorials in Maureen's honor may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children at 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane WA 99204.
